Accidents cause long delays for Plymouth motorists
DRIVERS faced long tailbacks on one of the city's main thoroughfares late yesterday afternoon as torrential rain pelted the roads.
The emergency services were called to a number of traffic incidents yesterday with many causing long delays and disruption to city commuters.

A collision between a large goods vehicle and a Peugeot 207 on the outbound lane of Gdynia Way at around 1.30pm saw one of the drivers taken to Derriford Hospital with minor injuries.
The incident, in which one of the vehicles ended up on the bank, left traffic queuing in both directions on Gdynia Way and the A379 Laira Bridge Road for nearly two hours.

And just a few hours later, a two-vehicle crash left commuters queuing to get across the Tamar Bridge in the lead up to Friday rush hour.
Commuters heading into Cornwall experienced long delays after a red Renault Laguna and a white Citroen van collided at around 4.15pm shutting the A38 at Tideford in Cornwall.
Police were called to the scene between Church Road and Trerulefoot roundabout where they remained for nearly three hours.
The crash left one elderly woman with chest pains which were not thought to be life-threatening.
Traffic was also reported to be very delayed travelling into Cornwall and diversions for motorists heading into Devon were set up via Trerulefoot.
Shortly after, at around 4.45pm, three fire engines, police and paramedics were called to a multi-vehicle collision on the A38 near the Peartree Cross junction at Ashburton.
Three vehicles had collided leaving three people with injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening, the police said.
And shortly before 5pm two fire crews from Camels Head and Crownhill were called to an incident in which a vehicle was left smoking.
The one-vehicle collision on the A38, between Manadon and Weston Mill, also saw paramedics and the police attend.

“And in the meantime,in between pennycome quick and north cross outbound under the bridge they dig a trench on a friday ,causing havoc and total gridlock late yesterday afternoon and disappear for the weekend .
It needed police trained in the long lost art of directing traffic directing to stop the idiots blocking every single exit. But the only "traffic" police we see are the ones sat in cars or hidden behind a tree with money making machines .”
