Administrator confirms Exeter video store is among 164 further Blockbuster outlets set for closure
An Exeter video store has been confirmed as among 164 Blockbuster Entertainment branches set to close in the wake of the chain's collapse into administration.
A spokesperson for Administrator Deloitte said that the outlet in the city's Heavitree district was among an additional 164 stores over the coming weeks as part of a phased closure process. It said that around five employees at the store now face redundancy.

The move brings the total number of Blockbuster store closures announced to 324, since administrators were appointed last month in a move which put 4,190 jobs at risk.
Deloitte said that talks were ongoing with a number of interested parties in purchasing all or parts of the remainder of the business, comprising 204 outlets.

Blockbuster also has two further Exeter stores and branches in Barnstaple, Exmouth, Newquay, Newton Abbot, Paignton, Torquay, as well as two in Plymouth. A spokesperson told the Western Morning News that these outlets were not included on the current list of those earmarked for closure.
A dedicated employee helpline has been put in place to support staff facing redundancy, with an employee assistance programme set up to assist them find other jobs.
Deloitte said that closing stores will, for now, remain open for business as usual. Customers will be notified in advance of closure so that they can return their outstanding rental items beforehand.
