Allotment holders set to 'star' in TV documentary
TORQUAY allotment holders are to feature in a BBC documentrary.
A film crew followed the trials and tribulations facing this year's growers at the Torquay Allotment Holders' annual show.
It will be part of a country-wide look at allotments and is due to be screened later this year or early next year.
Gary Poston, association spokesman, said: "It has been the wettest summer for 100 years. Doom and gloom among allotmenteers because of potato and tomato blight, poor onion crops and general disappointment with a very poor season.

"However, trust the hardy amateur growers in Torquay to come up trumps with another excellent show.
"Unbelievably, many exhibits were of a higher standard than in previous years."
Association chairman Tony Mason and his wife, Janet, were best overall winner in the vegetable section, and won the cup for most points overall in show.
Richard Pastewski won the cup for the most points awarded in the flower section, and secretary Andrew Ditton and wife Barbara won the cup for the most overall points in the vegetable section.
Wendy Davidson gained most points in the homemade section, while Gary Poston won two cups for flowers.
Mr Poston said: "It was particularly pleasing to see brand new allotmenteers entering the show, even winning first prizes. Many congratulations to them."
Visitor numbers were significantly lower than in previous years.
Mr Poston said: "A very poor weather forecast probably didn't help.
"Nevertheless, it was another fine example of the skill and determination of local amateur vegetable, fruit, and flower growers who managed to produce such amazingly good entries. Every one of them was a winner.
"Our heartfelt thanks go to all those who sponsored, supported and worked so hard for us in so many ways, including the judges who give up their time to adjudicate so professionally."
