Alphas serve up the win of the day
ALPHINGTON posted the win of the day in the B Division second XI competition when they trounced Bideford by 227 runs.
Saeed Hussain (74), Steve Hathaway (53), Lee Rowe (47) and Matt Barnes (38) all chipped in as the Alphas powered their way to 287 for five declared.
Jay Atkinson picked up three for 67 for Bideford, who were then blown away for just 60 — James Knight taking five for 49. Tom Bath bagged a brace (2-8) and there was also a cameo two-over spell from Ben Newcombe that produced a couple of wickets for just one run.
Clyst St George took the thick end of a draw at Axminster. Alan Welsh (77) and Paul Richardson (62) put on 139 for the third Clyst wicket in a total of 221.
James Mitchum and Ben Fuzzard each took four wickets. Fuzzard then led the run chase with an unbeaten 65. Matthew Pyle chipped in with 51 and the chase fell just 13 runs shy of victory at 209 for six. James Welland (3-61) was the pick of the bowlers.
Chudleigh made light work of beating Brixham by seven wickets in a one-sided affair at Kate Brook
Ben Holmes, Mark Heather, Matt Heather (2-13) and Jack Vittles (2-5) removed Brixham for just 70. Chudleigh started hesitantly with Paul Horne and Simon Rooke both going early, but Ben Tuckett (36no) steered his side home.
Shobrooke Park were brought down to earth with a bump when they went down by 48 runs to visiting Yelverton.
Yelverton recovered from 79 for five to make 211 for eight.
Shobrooke struggled at one end during the early stages of their reply — they were 47 for three — but Roger Jones (46) kept them in it.
Mark Wheeler, who went on to make 60, got Shobrooke into a wining position and their stand of 58 had Yelverton worried.
But both fell in quick succession and Yelverton mopped up the remains.
Heathcoat ended Braunton's winning start to the season with a three-wicket verdict over the Kelseymen.
Braunton batted first and were bundled out for 112. Darren Drew claimed four for 31 from 13 overs.
Ali Burt-Mitchell (29) and Steve Harding (28) held the run chase together to see their side home.
