ANIMAL rights charity the League Against Cruel Sports has been rebuked by the Charity Commission for engaging in party political activity.

The regulator investigated complaints over an opinion poll from LACS, regarding hunting with dogs, which singled out the Conservatives.

The poll was sent out by the organisation along with a press release last summer. In one question, regarding hunting with dogs, the poll asked respondents: "In 2002, a senior Conservative party politician described the party as having been regarded as 'the nasty party'.

"The current Conservative leader has sought to rebrand them as the 'Compassionate Conservatives'. Do you think the Conservative pledge to hold a vote on whether to make the hunting with dogs of deer, hares and foxes legal again is MORE in keeping with a 'nasty party' or a 'Compassionate Conservative' party?"

The Charity Commission found the question, and the press release accompanying it, were "party political in nature in that they could be seen to be critical of a national political party, contrary to charity law and the Commission's guidance".

Its findings were welcomed by campaigners hoping to repeal the 2004 Hunting Act ban and is likely to act as a warning to charities lobbying for legislative changes.

LACS chief executive Douglas Batchelor said the organisation accepted the commission's guidance and was encouraged by what it advised was permitted activity by a charity.

A spokesman for the Countryside Alliance said: "LACS cannot continue to engage in party political activity while taking advantage of financial benefits of charitable status."

    “Charles.

If _I_ post that there are 3,000,000 pheasants killed on the road, then 3,000,000 pheasants _are_killed on the road.

I closed one of the biggest shoots in the country down. "Chance favours the prepared mind". And I was prepared. Then luck kicked in. Napoleon said he wanted his generals to be good - and lucky. It took me four years.

I was phoned by the late Bill Tirwhytt- Drake (can't quite remember spelling of first part of his double name) telling me the shoot was closing and I was the first member of the public to know. Bill Tirwhytt-Drake was chair of the Code of Good Shooting Practice committee.

And in a "coded" way, this closure was covered in the Daily Telegraph.”

Now they are filling up half of our jails around the country at twice the cost instead; they know why.”

“:| "3,000,000 pheasants die on the roads each year."

That's just more 'statistical bullshxt' from another great big hysterical 'girl's blouse'. . Exactly the same as the nonsense from the Anti-Hunting lobby. . You don't impress me one little bit. .

Why don't you do something useful useful like campaigning for mentally disadvantaged who were thrown out into our 'caring communities' when they closed and built on half of the psychiatric hospitals around the country. . I don't have have to make it up Theo!

    Get your priorities right!”

    “"Game is for eating".

Charles, the Code of Good Shooting Practice - something that I have watched develop over seven years (and am responsible for lobbying for part of) it says "Shot game is food and should be treated as such". Yes, shooters actually have to be reminded of this.

3,000,000 pheasants die on the roads each year. Funny way to run a chicken farm?

I am responsible for part of the code, and the associated guidance by the GWCT (aka GCT). I am particularly responsible for the parts that urge caution with respect to the damage that can occur to traditional Devon hedge banks.

And in case you think that "game is food", the Code advises that "Shoots should offer and Guns accept a brace of oven ready birds on departure". As these are oven ready, it means that the Guns will depart with birds shoot by someone else, at least a day before, and possibly from another shoot. Funny" hunter gatherer" stuff, me thinks

Urban Leparchaun claims to have single-handedly closed the "shoot from Hell".

I know a lot of what the world of driven game shooting, both private and commercial wised to keep private.”

“:| Theo; in the days of Robin Hood you would have been what is now commonly known as a Woosy. . . Game is for eating. . You don't approve of 'hunter gathering' and you don't much like farming so I think you had better just stick with the Lentil Soup. . The only reason there are ground nesting birds like partridge and pheasant around these days, is because they are being bred. . Particularly now there are so many badgers. . The wild birds under greatest threat now are all ground nesting. . That's official from the RSPB. . Yet another gravy train charity for the organisers, in my opinion. . . Since the days of the 'The Spastics Society' in the 60s and early 70s,(Spastics Pools) that were deemed unlawful lotteries; 'charities' have been one of the fastest growing 'operations', and they are always 'nice little earners' for the organisers. . The RSPCA; fantastically wealthy, and a classic set up. . Almost as good as banking.”

“My favourite animal charity is the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust. This is the shooting world's organisation that researches the rearing and management of game for shooting. Previously this was the Game Conservancy Trust - until it had an Orwelian makeover.

Yes folks, in the UK we have the only charity in the world that is about killing animals for fun.”

“:| And about time too. . The RSPCA should be similarly rebuked. . Whilst Jackie Ballard became Director General after she was 'sacked' as an MP by the electorate; it became a total disgrace. . Similarly the Charity she now heads, the Royal National Institute for Deaf People is also being heavily criticised within the deaf community for the lack of involvement in its governance by deaf and hard of hearing people. . . In my opinion, the 'troughs' that these 'charities' feed from are far, far, bigger than ever the MPs troughs were.

Few of them could ever create and run a real business that would generate the income to pay the sort of salaries they all enjoy; for if they could they would in my opinion.”
