Ms Widdecombe was her guest of honour and welcomed up to 130 visitors.

Branch spokesman Ursula Woolnough said: "Before the garden party, committee member Betty Weymouth and her daughter Sue worked tirelessly visiting local businesses for raffle prizes securing 76 prizes for a grand draw as well as others for tombola and for the art and craft stall.

"We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the many local people and businesses who sponsored the event and donated so many fantastic prizes and the committee members and helpers who worked so hard all day to make the event a success."
