Annual club show for Red Ruby Devons in Somerset
At the Royal Bath & West of England Show this year there will be a veritable army of farmers exhibiting their Red Ruby Devon cattle, at the Society's National Show.
Thanks to support from the team at River Cottage and the River Cottage canteen in Bristol, Red Ruby Devon exhibitors will be treated to a taste of local food from River Cottage during the show.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has owned Red Ruby Devon cattle for many years, and being a strong supporter of traditional native breeds, and local food, his team was delighted to get on board to help the society's celebrations.
Dan Powell, head farmer at River Cottage, said: "Red Ruby Devons are an integral part of the farm here at River Cottage. Because of their local roots, they are the breed of choice for us. The high-quality beef they produce makes them the chefs' favourite and being purebred means we can be sure of their provenance.

"We've owned and reared this breed since the first days of River Cottage and we find that their suitability to our land makes them easy and pleasant to farm."
Catherine Broomfield, society secretary, said: "Our National Show is going to be a fantastic celebration of Red Ruby Devons – a really spectacle for everyone coming to the Royal Bath & West Show.
"We have had terrific support from a whole host of sponsors, including River Cottage, who we are delighted to have on board, not just because of Hugh's long-term association with the breed, but also because we shall be looking forward to a cup of tea and cake like never before.
"The amount of support we have had from sponsors just goes to show the positivity there is in the industry for the role native breeds have to play in the future of sustainable food production."
