Apartment block plan is refused
PLANS to build a block of two- and three-bedroom apartments overlooking Saunton Sands beach have been refused.
The scheme to demolish a chalet bungalow to make way for eight holiday apartments and one for the current owner of the site, was judged by North Devon Council to be "an overdevelopment of the site."
Planners also felt that the proposed development unacceptably intruded into the landscape and as such failed to preserve and enhance the area's natural beauty.
The existing property which was earmarked for demolition under the plans, has been in the same family since 1946.

The agents had pointed out that its status as a family home, along with its amenity and market value, had been severely affected by the increased development on either side.
The Brend Group, which owns the neighbouring Saunton Sands Hotel, had objected to the proposed development.
