The Argyle Debate - What changes should manager John Sheridan make to his team this Saturday?
AT THE moment, no changes. Why? Because those who played on Saturday, sorry let me rephrase that, those who were on the pitch and so badly let the manager, the supporters and themselves down should be given an opportunity to redeem themselves.
I wonder if those who played realised the expectation at Home Park on Saturday was immense.

The Argyle Debate - What changes should manager John Sheridan make to his team this Saturday?
If they perform as badly again, and I would be surprised if they do, then I think JS (John Sheridan) will have some answers as to who is up for the fight and who he can bin.

A VERY poor performance from Argyle on Saturday but Sheridan must take his share of the blame.
He did have alternatives on the bench in the skilful Andres Gurrieri and Luke Young but just made a like for like substitution that changed nothing.
It is Sheridan's job to manage the team on the pitch but I saw little evidence that he was doing this.

BRING in Akos Buzsaky. He's a free agent and would no doubt love to play for us again. As we all know he can score some crackers.
Are you listening John Sheridan and the board? Get him back.
That's what is needed. I'm sure he would help us out in our hour of need and no doubt he wants to play first team football.
Come on board, for the life and soul of our beloved club bring Akos back.

SADLY, I think we have run out of options. Yes, let's give Andres Gurrieri and Luke Young another chance but we have used both before and they have not produced the goods.
As regards up front who else is there? Okay you could try Harvey but it is a very big ask to bring a youngster like that into a struggling team and expect him to produce the goods.
What I think is interesting is that when you watch our pre-match warm up the last part of which is to get the strikers (I use the term loosely) to try shooting from about 10 yards out most of them miss the target.
If you can't score then what chance in the actual game!!!
It does not hurt to shuffle the pack but we have no aces up our sleeves. Good luck Mr Sheridan – the only hope is to try and get a new loanee who is a proven goal scorer.

LET'S all stop kidding ourselves here. The plain fact is the players here now and those that were here before John Sheridan's arrival are clearly not good enough to play in this league.
Some time ago someone posted that it would not be a bad thing for the club to drop out of the Football League, have a good clear out and start again.
I rubbished the suggestion at the time but now I think it's going to be our only option.

UNFORTUNATELY, as I see it, it is a catch 22 situation. The fans' expectations put a terrific amount of pressure on the team, but the team are unable to cope with the pressure put on them by the fans, which causes the fans to put more pressure on the players!
Tough one but all that is really missing is some confidence. How do they get that? That is the toughest question!

PAUL WOTTON sitting in front of the back four was highly successful at Aldershot and I'm certain that will help us this Saturday as Northampton's attacks are going to come at us thick and fast and he will help break them up.
Also I think the right side needs tampering. Luke Berry and Paris Cowan-Hall are both good players but have been almost ineffective in the last three or four games.
Berry is a very good right-back so it's surprising he has been off form and Cowan-Hall struggles to make up his mind on whether to pull back, go past his man or cross it.

THE worst thing about the Oxford game was the clear lack of effort by many of the players, in terms of not closing down the opposition, not offering an option to team-mates and the general lazy passing.
If we are going to go down, we must go down with a fight and some shred of dignity.
Give Andres Gurrieri, Luke Young, Tyler Harvey and Paul Wotton a starting place, at least you know they will give their all to the cause.
Furthermore, get the armband off Conor Hourihane and place it firmly in Wotton's hand. At least he leads by example and won't accept the drivel of Saturday. Sadly, Hourihane's 'pass it backwards' style breeds negative play.

“AT FORTRESS HOME PARK WE DEMAND SUCCESS !! OUR DEFENCE MUST BE ROBUST AND NOT CONCEDE. WE AIM FOR 3 POINTS EVERY GAME AT HOME.
WE MUST CREATE - STRIKE - AND WIN OVER AND OVER AGAIN !! WE THEN GO AWAY WITH OUR SUPPORTERS AND WANT MORE POINTS ON THE BOARD TO MOVE UP THE TABLE.
WE ARE GREEN ARMY. WE FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO TAKE ON FREE-FALLING POMPEY NEXT SEASON.
COMNE ON ARGYLL !!!”

“Wotton is like Brighton rock with PAFC going all the way through him, I know he's 35, but he makes the rest of them look static and while he's got a gob on him he will pull the team together like no other can.”

“If Young is too young and not ready for the "pressures" of a relegation battle then surely Hourihane, Berry, Murray and the rest of our youngsters are too. Hourihane is not a leader, he should not be our Captain. Branston leads by example and demands respect so he is obvious choice. Our Midfield has been the problem for as long as I can remember, we used to have quality in the engine room with the likes of Lilian Nalis, Buzsaky and Friio now we are just far too lightweight and get bullied far too easily. Wotton is perhaps an option, there is no doubt he is a leader and a talker on the pitch and obviously cares a great deal about his home town club plus his set pieces are an added threat. But more than anything we need the players to actually want to win the ball and be creative with it instead of playing "safe", being negative and passing backwards all the time, plus when we lose it track back and put pressure on the ball. Too many times of late players lose the ball look to the sky and give up when they should be chasing back and busting a gut to make up for thier mistake.
Hopefully Nelson will be back soon, so Charles can move to left back and allow our main creative and attacking threat Bhasera to move forward and attack opposing defences, he is far more effective further up the pitch.
But the biggest change needed is in players attitudes, hard graft is what we need not lazy half hearted displays from players apparently not bothered about doing the best for a great club like Plymouth Argyle.”

“Whilst back or, at best, side passing Hourihane leads our team we really are doomed. Use Wotton for, what he's good at, giving his all and leading by example. Our backs are really against the wall now, so pretty football isn't to the forefront, but not giving up and digging in is.”

“Sheridan saw what Paul Wotton can do for us and I praised the guy for putting him in there.... what does he do next match but drop him! I swear to God that there was no obvious reason not to go with him again so what is the point of putting our ideas out there when Sheridan does just what he wants. I am not for a moment saying I know more about football than our manager, who I respected as a player, but perhaps, like a lot of the Green Army, I know how Wotton can galvanise a team and ensure they focus on the task at hand. There would have been a lot more urgency and intensity if Wotton had been on watch... no way would guys have been posing and strolling that is for certain. The only player who was perhaps more of an inspiration in an Argyle shirt for me in that role was the legend ....Andy "Jock" Morrison who would have been kicking half of our current team up the **** as he played !”
