YANNICK BOLASIE is unlikely to be fit for Plymouth Argyle's next game at Colchester United on September 11.

The 21-year-old winger/forward has not appeared so far this season.

He picked up a knee injury in pre-season, at Saltash United on August 2 and has been missed by Argyle, who have only scored three goals in their opening four League One fixtures.

Manager Peter Reid said of Bolasie: "I wish he could play at Colchester, but I think it might be too early for him.

"Obviously, he's a player who can go past people and is an attacking option we've missed, without a doubt."

Argyle are inactive this weekend after calling off their home league game against Brighton and Hove Albion because of international call-ups.

Bolasie, who signed a new two-year deal with the Pilgrims this summer, will not now play before September 18, when current League One leaders Sheffield Wednesday visit Home Park, at the earliest.

Bolasie had keyhole surgery on August 18 to trim cartilage in his injured knee.

Reid added: "Yannick's due to see a specialist next week, so we'll have to see.

"He's been training with the physio and coming on really well. There's been no problem with his rehab."

The Argyle manager plans to run the rule over Wednesday himself this Sunday when they visit Brentford, who conversely are currently bottom, in League One.

"Even though it's a free weekend for the club, it won't be free for me," said Reid.

"I'll try to pick up a game tomorrow and on Saturday, and then Brentford on Sunday. I just like watching football matches."

Meanwhile, Reid continues to seek a replacement for coach John Carver on his backroom staff. Carver was appointed number two to the new Sheffield United boss Gary Speed on August 20.

Reid currently has Paul Mariner and Adam Sadler on his coaching staff, and said: "I haven't found anyone at the moment, but I'm actively working on that."

PETER REID hopes international clearance for new signing Stephane Zubar 'will be a formality'.

Argyle signed the 23-year-old French right-back on transfer deadline day on Tuesday. But the Pilgrims still need clearance from Romania where Zubar played last season for top flight side Vaslui.

Reid said of the situation: "We're hoping it will be a formality, but obviously these things take time. I'll be checking on it day to day."

“Biscuit.. Staying in this division is going to be a hard slog let alone getting into the play offs unless a miracle takes place in the next few weeks. The way I see it there are teams in this division who are a lot better placed than Argyle are at the moment who will be able to challenge for a promotion place. Argyle seemed to have the mentality that having dropped down a division they would be head and shoulders above the rest, sadly they have been brought down to earth with a bump... This current set up would struggle in the 4th division which is why I have been saying since the end of last season that argyle need to put all their effort into ensuring that we are still in this division next term when we should be in a better position to push for promotion.
If there are any fools out there who are still hanging on to the slimmest of hopes that Argyle are somehow going to start scoring buckets full of goals, because that's what they need to start doing and soon, then I kindly suggest that you need your heads banging together. We could be in this division for quite some time and the only forseeable alternative to that is Argyle dropping off the radar altogether... and before you think that that is unthinkable.... think again, it's happened to teams no worse off than we are at the moment.
On a lighter not.. I have to have similar op to the one that YB has had, so knowing what he has had to go through I wish him luck with his recovery, I know he will do a good job for us on his return...”

“Everything seems to be hard work for PAFC at the moment.

The trouble is that the service to the forwards is very poor. Forwards can only score goals if the midfield and backs push down the wings and create chances with decents crosses. Even take the ball to the bye line and balls pulled back across the goal. The midfield and wing backs must play to the strengths of the forwards. If not, the forwards will not score goals. Argyle play too deep and that I have commented on previous occasions. The other problem is that over the last couple of years, the silverware in the way of forwards who have the ability to score goals have been sold. Decent forwards are an expensive commidity. If PAFC have decent forwards who can score goals, they should be holding on to them otherwise it will be back to square one, like we are now. Its going to be a hard slog to end up in the play positions but goals have to be scored ...that means soring more than the opposition which is a problem for PAFC! Lets hope September sees a turn around in fortunes. Good luck..you need it!”
