PLYMOUTH Argyle striker Nick Chadwick has apologised unreservedly for his actions after being hit by a six-match suspension from the Football Association, writes Chris Errington.

Chadwick was sent-off for violent conduct in the 34th minute of the 4-0 defeat away to title-chasing Port Vale on Saturday.

The 30-year-old was red-carded by referee Scott Mathieson, after he consulted fourth official Matthew Bristow, for elbowing Vale's Ashley Vincent.

A similar off-the-ball incident involving the same two players occurred at the start of the match.

From the kick-off, Vincent ended up in a heap on the ground after Chadwick ran past him, although on that occasion none of the match officials spotted any offence.

It is that incident which has led to Chadwick getting a six-match ban, instead of three, as had been expected.

Chadwick's lengthy suspension was confirmed by Argyle in a statement this afternoon.

It read: "As well as imposing an automatic three-match ban for his red card in the 34th minute of the game, the FA have taken retrospective action, under Law 12, regarding an incident in the first minute of the match and added a further three matches to the suspension.

"Nick regrets his actions which have led to this ban and apologises unreservedly for them. He fully accepts the punishment handed down by the FA.

"Pre-mediated violent behaviour on the field is totally unacceptable at Plymouth Argyle and, accordingly, Nick has also been separately disciplined by the club."

Chadwick's suspension will last until the home game against Oxford United on February 16.

“As this story appears twice on the site, from both Wednesday and Thursday, I'll duplicate my comment:

"Chadwick's actions are outrageous. There seems no doubt he is guilty as claimed, so why are we still paying him?

In any other job violent conduct is grounds for summary dismissal, even if many employers would err on the side of caution and implement an immediate suspension while giving the opportunity for an investigation.

This is a case for sacking/ contract termination on the grounds of gross misonduct. If football contracts preclude this it is even more rotten than I thought!

I have put my views to PAFC by phone (01752 562561), and will be following up with a letter / e-mail shortly."”

“totally agree with the 6 match ban... back in the 70s we never had any high tackles or diviing , and any fisty cuff involving player time foe this too stop these are proffessional footballers , that children look up to and idolise, time to throw out the violent players and the ever consistant cheats .. its the premiership c;ubs that mde these players primma donnas , with fancy wages, and fancy life styles, time to bring it to a stop, esp with the worlds financial state, time to show him the door , he not exactly done any thing since returning to argyle.. argyles never found that prolific goal score since tommy tynans ... stamp out the violent player argyle...................hope you gave him an hefty fine as well..........................”

“So 6 games out - it would not matter if it was 16 he would not be missed. As a donkey he is great but as a player totally useless.

Don't pay him, don't play him and don't retain him because of his selfish action.

Now that he is out for 6 games then lets really see how much he is missed. If we can score a few from whatever source we have available then that answers all the questions that he won't or will not be missed.

There's a nice green field near me that needs someone to eat the grass - now who can I think fits the bill?

“Chadwick's form has been woeful this season, ban or not surely he would not have been in Sheridan's team, that was part of his predecessor's downfall. Couldn't hit the preverbial cow's **** with a banjo.”

“Anyway back on track. If the match officials had been doing their job from the start then clearly Chadwick would have been sent off in the first minute!!

Why would you do that, its obvious, is it not, that his intention was to

    1. Get Sent Off as soon as possibley. Guilty

    2. Let down his fellow players. Guilty

    3. Ensured we got hammered. Guilty

    4. Get a ban. Guilty

JS, show him the door. He has shown his true colours and is now more of a hinderance”

“match ban - wow - I agree with comments that he should not be paid wages - club should fine him in some way. By the time he is available for selection, he hopefully wont be considered because new players would have been signed on loan and blended in.”

Your posts are actually quite funny and I look forward to them

I would move to the next corner but your wife has refused to move

" I've been here 10 years" She told me " And I'm not moving for anyone"”

“You wonder if it was premeditated to enable him to have six games off and be fully paid.
He hasn't exactly put in a full shift in this season; he was out supposedly injured for quite a spell.

Argyle, should never have resigned him. He was not that different on his first spell at Argyle, always injured.

Instead of getting rid of their best players Chadwick should have been the first player to be shown the door.

Argyle needs players with 100% commitment to the cause and not individuals that try and pull the wool over a naive owner eyes.

Hopefully Sheridan will readdress the sorts of problems.”

“Surely you would just stand on another corner wig and find some more customers if your work dried up.

Best player Argyle have got and now he's out for 6 games. Should be and will be in the conference next time he puts that green shyte on.”
