Arson investigation after gorse fire
Arsonists are thought to have started a gorse fire at Carlyon Bay, near St Austell in Mid Cornwall. Firefighters were called to the blaze, which destroyed some 400 square metres of gorse, at 2.20pm yesterday. The crew used beaters to put out the fire which is thought to have been started deliberately. Police have been informed. The incident came just two hours after crews from St Just were called to Pendeen, West Cornwall, where a planned gorse burn had got out of control. Firefighters allowed the gorse to burn to a firebreak, where it was eventually extinguished.
