The Art of Dick Twinney
Shane the Puma
No, this isn't the Beast of Bodmin Moor or some recently sighted mythical Big Cat – it's 'Shane the Puma', a popular resident of Newquay Zoo in Cornwall in the 1990s.
As regular readers will know, I usually just portray our local Westcountry wildlife, but I was persuaded to do this portrait of Shane by the then zoo manager Mike Thomas as a fund-raising project for the zoo. I must admit I love pumas and they are probably my favourite big cat, so the artwork was a delight to do, especially as I had the subject close at hand.
I have featured Shane here as this coming Sunday a Wildlife Art Exhibition opens at Newquay Zoo, in which I shall be exhibiting work alongside artists including Ian Griffith, Kim Hohlweg and Jon Tremaine. The exhibition runs until October 27, and is open from 10am until 4pm daily.
