BBC Radio 1 roadshow to 'kick-start' summer
Scores of Plymouth youngsters will be hoping to get their hands on tickets for one of Radio1’s summer events in Devon.
One of the leading figures in the UK’s breaking music scene, Radio1 and 1Xtra DJ MistaJam, will be kick starting the summer at the exclusive live event next month.
The Grime and Dubstep champion says he ‘can’t think of anywhere better’ than Devon for the Radio1 Starts the Summer event.
A total of 8,000 people from across Devon are expected to attend the event on Paignton Green on Saturday, May 19 – with free tickets handed out first to local people.

MistaJam, who has played and experienced live music events across the Globe, said: “I can’t think of anywhere better than Devon to start the summer. The scenery alone in your part of the world is breathtaking.
“I’m Nottingham born and bred, and commute to London for work, but whenever I’m in Devon I always think I’d love to buy a house in that part of the world.”
MistaJam, who has just returned from an international dance event in Austria, Snowbombing, says he has no doubt Devon can hold its own against other live music events in the world.
He said: “I’m hoping there’ll be a few less muscle-bound people without their shirts on than I see in Miami, but there is a great fanbase in Devon who will support this event and it’s going to be big.”
The seven-hour event, the only-one of its kind, will be broadcast on Radio1 and 1Xtra with ‘beacons of daytime radio’ Chris Moyles and Fearne Cotton along with other stars of the two stations – including Zane Lowe, Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Danny Howard – providing DJ sets.
MistaJam said that as well as his DJ colleagues he is looking forward to sets from his good friends Jaguar Skills and Example. The last time Radio1 came to Torbay was the 1999 Roadshow on the Green with Victoria Beckham and Richard Blackwood.
Not only will the event kickstart a season of summer events, coming at the same time as the Olympic Torch passes through Devon, but MistaJam hopes it could also kickstart a few music careers.
He said: “While there may not be a very strong club scene in Devon there are a few producers who are already coming through.”
Details of how to get tickets will be revealed on Radio 1 on May 4.
