Banishing power for summer policing
ILFRACOMBE police have been granted the power to banish groups of unruly people from the town centre throughout the summer season.
Police reapplied for a Section 30 Dispersal Order after a similar order over Christmas proved successful in reducing antisocial behaviour.
Last December officers applied for the order for the first time in the resort's history after a spate of incidents which police said led to an increased fear of crime.
The order allows police to disperse anyone over the age of ten, who is engaging or likely to engage in antisocial behaviour, for a period of up to 24 hours.

The area covered by the order runs from the War Memorial on the east of the town to the Benricks skate park at Larkstone Lane on the west.
It includes the High Street, seafront, Fore Street, Portland Street and Wilder Road.
The order will run from June 1, to August 31.
Ilfracombe Team Sergeant Mike Warriner said: "We have looked at the information and data when the order was in place over Christmas and it seems to have been very effective.
"There were less cases of antisocial behaviour and perpetrators were aware of the power and didn't challenge us on it.
"The new order for the summer is part of a season-long campaign to reduce antisocial behaviour in Ilfracombe and this will include extra officers patrolling every evening.
"Antisocial behaviour can be a bigger problem in the summer due to more people being around, though generally Ilfracombe has very low levels.
"We want to make sure the summer goes without event and that people are able to come to Ilfracombe and enjoy the town."
