THE Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall arrived on the Isles of Scilly yesterday for a tour of the island's boat club, horticultural centre and harbour.

They travelled to St Mary's and visited the Gig Boat Club to be shown the Golden Eagle gig, a heavy boat that was built in 1870 and refurbished using funds from the Duchy Benevolent Fund.

As she arrived the Duchess looked at a sale of urchins outside the club before walking barefoot on the beach to see the boats.

The Golden Eagle is around 32ft long and crewed by Selena Thomas, 40, Karen Wright, 41, Vicki Hitchens, 38, Kristi Ashworth, 32 and Becky Campion, 26. Ms Thomas said Charles was interested in the sport and it was a pleasure to meet him.

"He was really interested in the racing, he was very friendly," she said.

The royal couple also met the owners of the Boat Shed restaurant, Charlie Carss, 41, and her husband Pete, 37. Mrs Carss introduced her children Joshua, four, and Lara, two, to the Duchess and said they were too shy to speak to her.

She said: "We started the Boat Shed as somewhere for crabbing and then we applied for planning permission to turn it into a restaurant and the Duchy of Cornwall supported us.

"They were very easy to talk to – the Duchess asked Joshua how he was enjoying pre-school but he was too shy to answer."

As the royal couple left the gig club, they stopped as Camilla bought one of the urchins and the Prince talked to dog-walker Pete Flower, 57, and his 11-year-old collie Tess.

    “That's OK then, Bella.
If my costs last year were £50k, but my earnings were £50K, I can claim it all back?

    Go bake some scones, luv.”

“Now wingnut is 60, he should take early retirement with his sexagenarian wifelet. If only so that we don't have to see them again.
After all, they've had a stressful life as workaholics all these years while the rest of us have been slacking on private jets, boats and having lackies boil eggs for us every morning.
He deserves a rest, as does Vanilla.”

“Just as well, Bella of Cheshire, that you have someone looking after your finances. Did you do any maths at school?
I pay my taxes AND pay for the upkeep of my home and family. I DON'T offset one against the other.
If the strain of all this is too much for you......”

“Still 3.1 million that doesn't need to be deducted from the taxpayer Bella. The Royals are useless feeders just like our MPs and pointless Parliament.”

“Actually the prince & his wife didn't cost the taxpayer anything last year as his taxbill was £3.7million & the cost of his household to the taxpayer was £3.1million.”

“I must say I think the Duchess is mucking down into the British spirit of it all, seeing for herself the sale of urchins and walking barefoot to the beach.
This is what made Britain Great!
You couldn't buy good PR like this for less than £1.50. Which is why the Prince and his wife cost the taxpayer handsomely this year.
Carry on, HRH and her, there's plenty more taxpayers' cash where the last lot came from.
    Yours - a Republican.”

    What's the bill next year?”
