In an interview afterwards she said she went to Bideford to steal the coat because she thought she would be less well known there.

The court heard how Sorenson is due back in court in the coming weeks for similar shoplifting offences.

David Barnes, for the prosecution said: "It seems silly to make an order now that you are going to have to think about again."

But the court decided to deal with the case on the day and fined Sorenson £50 for the offence.
