Bells ring out loud again
CENTURIES-OLD bells have rung out with full force in a Devon church for the first time in almost half a century.
Although the bells have been used occasionally since the 1960s, villagers in Cadbury say they have also been rung with great care because of their poor condition.
But now, thanks to a long-running campaign and the sterling work of a group of volunteers, the bells were robust enough to be rung at a special village occasion. The bells were rung by local bellringers to celebrate the marriage of local girl Vickie and Nathan Mason-Evans in St Michael and All Angels' Church.
Parish records dating back to 1727 show there were four bells in the church, and in 1905, two more were added to make up the current total of six.
