Beryl Cook's Plymouth Argyle painting up for auction
An original painting by popular British artist Beryl Cook depicting Plymouth Argyle footballers celebrating, is expected to fetch around £15,000 when it goes up for auction.
The painting is typical of Cook's flamboyant work and will be sold by Shrewsbury-based Halls on March 20.
"It's a charming picture, full of life and typical of Beryl Cook's work," said William Lacey, Halls' fine art specialist. "Many of her paintings were inspired by the colourful characters she met in Plymouth, where she lived for much of her life. She is now a household name and it's a great honour to be selling one of her early, original works."
The painting was purchased as an investment by an art collector in the late 1970s, just as Cook was becoming established.

The artist died in 2008 and is remembered for her flamboyant and extrovert characters.
It is a complete contrast to her own personality, as she was a shy and private person who enjoyed a small, but close circle of friends.
