Livestock farmers can learn how to get more out of their grassland through adopting best-practice soil and sward management, by attending an afternoon of presentations by the Grassright Group which is to be held at Holsworthy Memorial Hall, Manor Car Park, on February 14. Speakers will come from OPICO, GrowHow and Limagrain UK. The event is jointly hosted by Robert Cole Engineering Ltd and Harpers Home Mix Ltd and starts at 11am with refreshments provided. Cheque for Macmillan Cancer Support

Culm Valley Young Farmers' Club, the biggest club in Devon, presented a cheque for £3,515 to Macmillan Cancer Support from the club's members' fundraising for the year. The club, formed in 1921, has 86 members who have been busy fundraising over the past 12 months through various events, but mainly a summer ball, pantomime, carol singing, bingo and a muckathon.

Natural England's locally-based advisers work with 60,000 customers, including farmers, conservation organisations, smallholders and commons associations, and over £400 million is invested through Environmental Stewardship into the environmental management of farmland each year.

Online country reports for the major beef and sheep-meat producing, consuming and trading nations have been launched by the English beef & Lamb Executive to help levy payers make key business decisions. The reports, which can be found in the market information section of www.eblex.org.uk, provide valuable information about beef cattle and sheep populations, slaughtering and production and trade in beef and sheep products and live animals.

Precision Farming Event at Peterborough

The 2013 Precision Farming Event takes place on March 6 at the East of England Showground at Peterborough. Aimed at farmers, contractors and agronomists it will showcase the latest equipment and techniques from leading precision-farming companies.
