Blood clot team up for award
Staff at Derriford Hospital who have reduced blood clots among patients have been nominated for a national award.
A specialist team has been recognised for tackling embolisms among patients on wards or at home after discharge.
The Venous Thromboembolism Embolism (VTE) prevention team is travelling to an awards ceremony in London this week.
The hospital said the staff had played a key role in reducing the number of blood clots year-on-year.

The number of hospital-related blood clots accounted for 31 per cent of all identified cases in 2010, but that figure was down to 28 per cent by the end of October this year.
The team are attending the Thrombus National Innovation Awards, which highlight excellence in tackling embolisms and bleeding.
Huw Rowswell, Clinical Nurse Specialist at Plymouth Hospitals, said: “We are delighted that our work to reduce hospital associated thrombosis has been recognised nationally and we look forward to the awards ceremony.”
He said blood clots had been reduced by several measures including a change of anticoagulant, or blood thinner, in orthopaedic surgery.
Staff are attending the awards ceremony tomorrow in London.
