Creedy Manor's big carp gave up surface sunbathing and attacked baits with gusto, giving specimen hunters the opportunity to take fish in numbers.

Best of the hauls was by St Austell's Mike Body who, using his favourite tactics of free-lining floating dog biscuit, took 11 carp. Five of which topped 20lb with the heaviest 24lb 9oz, 23lb 7oz, and 23lb 6oz to make a total of 215lb.

Running him close was Newton Abbot's Paul Courtier who had 14 commons and a bright ghostie that gave an aggregate of 210lb. Croydon's John Brett had a bag weight of over 200lb and in it was the heaviest individual fish to make the return cards, a common of 26lb 10oz.

A 48-hour session fished at Paignton's Town Parks Fishery by Mark Walker resulted in a most impressive 23 carp, all in double-figure class to a best weight of 20lb 12oz.

He fished crayfish and mussel boilies principally in the area of Peg Six and out into mid-water. Strawberry boilies offered by another regular, Dave Osmond, produced several good fish including a common of 22lb 10oz that took on in the margin at Peg 10. The venue's catfish took no interest in baits in the hot conditions, but this will change as the temperature lessens.

The season's first big reef conger, a weighed at sea (WAS) specimen of 70lb, was the prize catch for Torbay's Andy Westcott, who was fishing the Eddystone from the Plymouth-based charter boat Sea Angler 11.

Big eel prospects improve by the day and the year's first 100–pounder should be recorded before the end of this month.
