Bovey Tracey get season off to fine start against Torpoint Athletic
The South West Peninsula League Premier Division season kicked off at Bovey Tracey on Friday evening, when the Moorlanders beat Torpoint Athletic 5-0.
The game drew a crowd of 163 to Mill Marsh Park, which was 37 more than last season’s best attendance, and they saw the home side comfortably beat Torpoint thanks to goals from Kai Fisher (two), Sam Dicken (two) and Tom Kelly.
It was a day of celebration for the two promoted sides on Saturday while fellow new boys, Elmore, had a harsh welcome to Peninsula football after moving sideways from the Western League. The Eagles lost 2-0 at home to Launceston, who had Sam Davey and Chris Head on target.
Home manager Pete Buckingham admitted: “We were beaten by the better side as Launceston deserved their victory after putting us under tremendous pressure from set pieces throughout the game.”

Promoted Godolphin Atlantic had an eye-catching result as goals from Phil Lowry and Aaron Dilly saw them beat much-fancied St Austell 2-0 at Godolphin Way.
Exmouth Town, who came up from Division One East, won 4-1 at Langsford Park against a young Tavistock side. The Lambs led 1-0 at the break, thanks to Jarryd Kelly’s 37th-minute opener, but second-half goals from Dan Boere (two), Lloyd Gardner and Ace High saw the visitors to victory.
Champions Bodmin Town took a 16th-minute lead through Lee Doel but visitors Witheridge hit back with second-half goals from Jordan Charran and Steve Ebdy to win 2-1 at Priory Park.
Andy Westgarth scored twice for Falmouth Town, his second from the penalty spot, but it was not enough to stop much-fancied Plymouth Parkway from winning 5-2 at Bickland Park, where Luke Rundle (two), Ryan Richards (two) and Will Stringer scored.
Kelvin Fyneboy and Jon Hoyles both hit hat-tricks as Saltash United crushed St Blazey 8-1 at Kimberley Stadium. Full-backs Steve Sargison and Stuart Clark completed the Ashes’ tally with Martin Sleeman replying.
Cullompton lost 5-0 at home to Ivybridge, who had Jordan Walton, Steve Sutton, Andrew Neale and substitute Jamie Middleton (two) on target.
Tom Hall gave Liskeard Athletic the lead at home to Newquay but the Peppermints hit back to win 3-1 thanks to a Jordan Trott penalty plus second-half efforts from Glen Squires and Lee Rundle.
Goals from Leighton Cahart and Dan Jennings saw Camelford beat Elburton Villa 2-1 at Trefrew Park, where Aaron Hulme replied.
