There are two remaining performances of Frantic Assembly's energetic Beautiful Burnout at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, tonight and tomorrow evening. It features Frantic's trademark physical theatre, relentless energy, a backdrop of glittering video screens and a pulsating electronic soundtrack by Underworld. Bryony Lavery's story is set against the backdrop of the world of boxing and packs a serious dramatic punch.

Community celebrates the river with a festival

The River Erme is the inspiration for an arts festival this weekend in the Devon moorland town of Ivybridge. The community has got together to mark its geographical position as Gateway to the Two Moors Way and the presence of the river which links to the sea. Ivybridge Arts Festival opens tomorrow and continues until October 12. It promises dance, performance, music, art walks and community events. It's initiated by local artist Amanda Pellatt who said: "The festival has already become a platform for new events and projects to be started – a fitting legacy". Full details at www.ivyarts.org.

Comedy of manners and the chance of a good gossip

Devon-based theatre company, Creative Cow, are to bring Sheridan's comedy of manners The Rivals, which introduced Mrs Malaprop to the world, to the Landmark Theatre next weekend – October 13 and 14. Set in the 1700s, The Rivals tells the story of a day in the life of a circle of socialites descending on the fashionable city of Bath to take the waters, find romance and have a jolly good gossip. Confusion, duels, madness and mayhem ensue in this hilarious comedy led by Mrs Malaprop with her famous twisted phrases.
