Boys boarding in old stable block
THE first boys are now boarding at Stover School near Newton Abbot.
The independent school which is celebrating its 80th birthday this year, has been open to both boys and girls since 2001. Until the new boarding house opened, boys from outside the area have had to board with host families during term-time.

The new accommodation sleeps 14 boys and is in a converted stable block in the school's 70 acres of grounds.
Principal Sue Bradley said: "The development is in response to a growing demand for boarding places. This is coming from families in this country and internationally. Some of the enquiries are from parents serving in the armed forces who want to keep siblings in the same school.

"The new accommodation enables us to offer a great deal of flexibility. Apart from full-time places, we also have short-term and occasional boarding.
"This is important because day pupils come from all over Devon and sometimes they have extra-curricular activities which mean staying on in the evening."
The boys' boarding house is part of a programme of expansion at the school, which also includes plans for a new sixth form centre.
The school day is also being extended until 4.30pm with an increase in teaching time.
