British climber dies in Italian Alps fall
A British climber has died in the Italian Alps, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has confirmed. The 30-year-old was a British soldier who fell 1,000 metres (3,280ft) from a precipice on Mont Blanc, according to Italian news agency Ansa. He reportedly began his ascent on the French side of the mountain, but fell on the Italian side. His body was transported to the town of Courmayeur after the incident, at 8am local time. An FCO spokesman said: "We were made aware of the death of a British national in Italy on August 28. We stand ready to provide consular assistance."
