Budget could be good for Plymouth says financial expert
THE Budget won't get the country out of the economic doldrums but won't make the situation worse, and it could actually be good for Plymouth, says one financial expert.
Stewart Hood, director of the Plymouth office of Arcadia Financial Solutions, watched the Budget at The Herald's Derriford headquarters and commented live throughout the Chancellor's speech via our website.
He said Mr Osborne announced little that was not expected and little that will bring a new economic dawn.
"At the end of the day, it's fiscally neutral," he said. "It will try to help growth but there's not enough there.

"Mr Osborne said there will be growth, but it will take a long time coming."
But he added: "It's quite a good Budget for the South West. It's helping housing, small companies and pubs. And low earners are winners too.
"But the people that have not been helped are the middle classes.
"And the public sector. There are a lot of people who will not get a pay rise over the next few years and will pay more tax."
However, Mr Hood stressed the markets seemed happy with the Chancellor's announcement – particularly building and pub firms whose shares rose shortly after the Help to Buy scheme and the 1p-a-pint beer cut were announced.
