Bungled car theft ends in Camelford collision and arrest of Okehampton man
An unlucky thief ended up in hospital where he was arrested for stealing the car he had crashed in yesterday.
The silver golf was stolen from outside a Spa shop in Launceston. At 2pm a mother popped to the shop, leaving her 8-year-old in the car, when the man jumped in and drove off.

It appears kidnapping wasn't on the thief's agenda, however, as he stopped shortly to let the little boy out.
Police were unsuccessful in stopping the run-away in Camelford but a short time later were alerted to a two-vehicle collision in the town involving the stolen car.

A woman driving a silver Vauxhall Insignia was treated by paramedics for minor injuries at the scene of the collision.
The 29-year-old man from Okehampton driving the Golf suffered suspected spinal injuries and was taken to Treliske Hospital where he was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle as a result of the incident.
Both carriageways of the A39 were closed between B3314 and A395 around 4.45pm. The road was reopened by 11.45pm.
Police have launched an investigation into the collision and the incident has been voluntarily referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the VW Golf being driven prior to the collision to contact 101, quoting crime reference BL/12/973.
