Buttler looks set to move on as Lancashire clear the way for him
Somerset batsman Jos Buttler is thought to be in discussions to join LV= County Championship Division Two winners Lancashire.
Buttler, England’s wicketkeeper-batsman in the limited-overs formats, is out of contract at the County Ground at the end of the current season.
While an offer from Somerset is on the table, Buttler may choose to boost his chances of appearing for England in Tests by making the switch to Lancashire.
The 23-year-old would be the first-choice wicketkeeper with the Red Rose after it was announced Gareth Cross would not be offered a new deal at Old Trafford. Buttler has been competing with Somerset team-mate Craig Kieswetter for a regular spot behind the stumps.
While Buttler is ahead of the South African-born 25-year-old in England’s pecking order, he has been largely used solely as a batsman at Taunton this season.
However, he has been in decent touch throughout the season, with 495 championship runs at an average of 38.07 for Somerset so far although it is his performances for England in the recent NatWest Series against Australia that drew widespread praise.
Buttler, who has also been linked with Warwickshire, was in the field with Somerset on Tuesday's first day as they look to preserve their Division One status against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
