Cases which have appeared before Plymouth Magistrates Court this week
THE following cases have been dealt with by Plymouth magistrates:
ANDREW BOLTON, aged 34, of Granby Street, Plymouth: possession of heroin — 12-month community order with six months of treatment for drug dependency and ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs.
ZUNEID BRUNO, aged 23, of Charlotte Street, Plymouth: threatening behaviour — fined £100, ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and £15 victim surcharge.
ANILSON CONCEICAO, aged 21, of Bernice Terrace, Plymouth: threatening behaviour — fined £100, ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and £15 victim surcharge.
NOEL EDWARDS, aged 36, of Sydney Street, Plymouth: drink-driving — banned from driving for 12 months, fined £275, ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and £15 victim surcharge.
PAUL FRANKLIN, aged 33, of no fixed address: theft — fined £50 and ordered to pay £15 victim surcharge.
NATASHA GRAYSON, aged 19, of Bedford Road, Gunnislake: possessing weapon for the discharge of CS gas — fined £70, ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and £15 victim surcharge.
SAMUEL HUSTWAITE, aged 21, of Tailyour Road, Plymouth: being carried in a motor vehicle taken without the owner's consent — fined £100, ordered to pay £35 prosecution costs and £15 victim surcharge.
RYAN McCULLOUGH, aged 33, of Coombe Way, Plymouth: assault by beating — 12-month community order with 60 hours' unpaid work, ordered to pay £50 compensation and £25 prosecution costs.
RODNEY LEE, aged 18, possession of cannabis — fined £70, ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and £15 victim surcharge.
STEPHEN MARSH, aged 37, of Coverdale Place, Plymouth: burglary and breach of a conditional discharge — six-month community order with Victim Awareness Specified Activity Requirement and Drug Rehabilitation Requirement, ordered to pay £229.73 compensation.
CHRISTOPHER PHILLIPS, aged 35, of Chedworth Street, Plymouth: assault by beating and threatening behaviour — four-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, ordered to carry out 30-day Education and Training and Employment Specified Activity and ordered to pay £150 compensation.
ANDREW TITLEY, aged 34, of no fixed address: two counts of persistently making use of public communication network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety — jailed for 12 weeks.
ROGER WOTTON, aged 66, of Grenville Road, Plymouth: theft — 12-month community order with 40 hours' unpaid work and ordered to pay £961 compensation.

“Interesting inconsistencies in the penalities awarded:
Assaulting someone gets you 60hrs community service, whereas making 2 abusive telephone calls gets you 3 months in prison?
Surely attaching someone in person is far more serious than phoning them?”
