SOMERSET look set to welcome back Andy Caddick for his long- awaited first-team opportunity when they take on Yorkshire in the LV County Championship at Taunton this morning.

The 40-year-old has made a full recovery from the reoccurrence of a shoulder injury that caused him to miss out virtually the whole of the 2008 campaign.

The veteran of 62 Test matches for England, in which he captured 234 wickets at an average of less than 30, has worked hard to get back to full fitness and is now on the brink of making his first-class comeback.

Somerset skipper Justin Langer said: "I'm a huge fan of Andy Caddick, he was one of the best bowlers I ever faced in Test match cricket. He may be 40 but he is still a very good bowler, so to have him back fully fit is great news.

"Back in 2007, he was the catalyst to us winning the Division Two title, and we certainly missed him last season. To have someone like Caddy in the line-up makes a huge difference to a captain."

Caddick himself said: "I'm delighted to have been called up and only sorry that it hasn't been sooner than now. However, I have only missed a few games and will be looking to make up for that during the rest of the season.

"I have been putting myself through my paces for several weeks now, and I'm now back to match fitness and ready to get out there and face Yorkshire on Tuesday. That's my job and that what I want to do."

Fellow opening bowler Charl Willoughby will also benefit from having Caddick in action, and is looking forward to renewing their deadly pace partnership. Willoughby said: "I love bowling with Caddy and we play well together. He brings me wickets and I do the same for him, so it will be awesome to have him back.

"Caddy is definitely one of the most consistent bowlers in county cricket in terms of the areas he hits and the pressure he creates."

Looking forward to the game, Langer said: "We played some good cricket when we beat Yorkshire away a few weeks ago and we would dearly like to record the double, but they are a proud side with a lot of tradition so will be doing all they can to stop that happening down here."

With leg-spinner Max Waller suffering a side strain in the Twenty20 defeat against Gloucestershire at Bristol last Friday, off-spinner Omari Banks is added to the squad along with Caddick.

Missing-from the Yorkshire team sheet will be the name of Michael Vaughan, who is appearing at a press conference today, when he is expected to announce his retirement from the game. Adil Rashid and Tim Bresnan are both in the England Lions' team.
