Charlton's new trio set to make Addicks debut against Exeter
CHARLTON Athletic are set to give league debuts to their three transfer window signings when they face Exeter City at St James's Park on Saturday.
The Addicks signed Dagenham striker Paul Benson, who has been a target for the past two months, ex-Carlisle attacker Joe Anyinsah and former Valley defender Jon Fortune.
"Paul has got a good goalscoring record and he has a determination to get into the box and get on the end of things," said Charlton manager Phil Parkinson.
"Joe is versatile. He's been training with us for two weeks and he's shown he warrants a deal."
But it is the move for Fortune, who started his career at The Valley and played more than 150 games for the Addicks, which is the most eye-catching.
He quit South London at the end of his contract just over a year ago but failed to make an impact at Sheffield United.
And now Parkinson has handed him a deal until January to give him the chance to prove himself.
"He's been training hard and it's his wish and ours that we can get him back to being the player he was and that we know he can be," he said.
"There's no reason why that can't happen. He's had a long period of inactivity but he's only 30.
"If he was 34 I might be worried but I'm not. There could even be an option for us to send him out on loan for a month to get his fitness up. He can use these next few months to get himself back up to speed."
Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton says he is still on the lookout for a new striker as he waits for the emergency loan window to open next Tuesday.
The Glovers are without Sam Williams for three weeks following his sending off against Exeter on Tuesday.
That leaves just Dean Bowditch and Luke Freeman as the only recognised strikers.
"I'm looking for a person who can play in a forward-type role," said Skiverton.
