Chief is aiming to make West safest place in UK
THE new chief constable of Devon and Cornwall Police has said his number one priority is to make the Westcountry the "safest place" to live and work in the country.
Shaun Sawyer was the "unanimous choice" to take the top job over four other candidates. He had been acting chief since Stephen Otter's departure last March .
Mr Sawyer, who started his policing career in 1986, will be paid £151,000 a year on a five-year contract. He admitted the force faced "real challenges" with budget cuts and low morale.
