Ben Winzer, for the prosecution, told the court the two boys had been involved in an online dispute which led to physical violence when the 14-year-old threw his 13-year-old victim against a car, headbutted, kneed and punched him.
The boy suffered a cut to his left cheek, a black right eye and a swollen right cheek which developed into a depression which now requires surgery.

The 14-year-old committed a further offence on October 1 when he destroyed a thermometer and a door handle to the value of £60 belonging to the YEO Centre in Barnstaple.
He pleaded guilty to both the charge of assault by beating and criminal damage to property.
He was given a nine month referral order for both offences, to run concurrently, in addition to £120 costs and a victim surcharge of £15.
