City of Plymouth provides nine athletes to Devon team for ESC
PLYMOUTH athletes feature strongly in the Devon team's chase for medals at this year's English Schools' Track and Field Championships in Birmingham.
The city's schools are represented at all age groups and genders in the 29-strong squad, who will be flying the flag for the county and also their own clubs at the Alexandra Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
City of Plymouth AC provide more than a third of the county's line-up, with the athletes trained either by sprints and hurdles specialist Steve Endacott or middle and distance coach Simon Anderson.
Looking to follow the lead set by team-mate and Great Britain international hurdler David King is Jade Simson.

Former Devonport High School for Boys' student and now University of Bath undergraduate King, 18, claimed a silver medal at last year's English Schools' Championships.
Plymstock School's Simson is ranked second in the country at under-17 level and broke Plymouth AC's record for 80m hurdles.
The 15-year-old is firmly on King's trail and is competing in the U17 80m hurdles this weekend.
Another one to watch for the future is Ridgeway School's Amber Pollock, who goes in the 75m hurdles in only her first year of competition.
The City of Plymouth 14-year-old is already ranked at number nine in the country and is, said Endacott, well-deserving of her place in the Devon team.
Another of Endacott's sprint successes is Plymouth College student John Alao, who, though a fine 100m prospect, has decided to show off his field strengths and will compete in the U15 shot competition.
Sprinter Krystian Lane has made a successful return from injury and the Plymouth College student goes in the 100m.
At the longer distances, Anderson's quartet of Poppy Tank, Vicky Weir, Emily Ackford and Tom Blackford demonstrate the richness and depth of teenage athletics at Brickfields, said Endacott.
"It's a great fillip for our club and the city to have so many young athletes going to the English Schools," he said.
"Some of the athletes in the squad will be going primarily to gain experience and to test themselves against the best in the country at their age group.
"Others will have reasonable expectations of coming back with a personal best and a medal.
"But all of the athletes deserve to be in the Devon team.
"They've worked very hard and at Plymouth AC we're extremely proud of them."
