BREAKDANCERS from across the world will go head to head in a bid to be crowned 'King of Plymouth' this weekend.

Over 300 people are expected in the city for the annual event, which this year will pit 32 hopefuls against each other one-on-one.

Budding breakers from the city are also in with a shout, as the judges are giving away 'wildcard' places to four people who turn up and impress on the day.

There will also be graffiti art, DJs based both in the city and in London, and hundreds of pounds in prizes to be won.

King of Plymouth 2010 follows last year's event, which attracted youngsters and adults from all corners of the West Country.

It was hailed a "tremendous success" by organisers, while numerous videos sprung up on websites such as YouTube.

PCSO Pablo Beckhurst, one of the event organisers, said: "It is going to be bigger and better than last year's competition, with entrants from all over the world.

"As well as the battle for the crown we also have a young person showcase battle between Plymouth and Bristol, live graffiti, performances from the Scribes and DJs.

"We want to get more people involved and so this year have four wildcard places up for grabs for anyone who wants to turn up on the day and show us what they can do."

Dancers from as far afield as Poland, Argentina, Denmark, Spain and France will be up against the finest breakers in the region.

Run in association with the Devon and Cornwall Police BREAK youth project, b-boy El-Paddy and Battlestations, the contest will be hosted by Kitastrophe, of dance group YML.

Last year's winner Bugz — aka Dean Reeve, from Exeter — is back but this time on the judging panel.

He will be joined by Finn, of YML, and Kilo, from SIN, with entrants battling it out to tunes provided by DJs Dek1 and Parkz.

The winner will land a £200 cash prize, with £100 for second place and £50 for third place.

The contest will take place at Mutley Baptist Church from 2pm to 8pm on Saturday.

Spectators are welcome, with entry priced at £5 for adults, £3 for under-16s. Children under the age of two can enter for free.
