Citybus's dementia awareness day
PLYMOUTH Citybus has staged a disability awareness day in Plymouth city centre, offering advice and support for their passengers with dementia and aiming to educate other passengers about the condition.
Working with the Dementia Friendly Association, they highlighted the challenges that daily face their passengers with dementia and other disabilities.
The event, staged on the Guildhall piazza, aimed to highlight the journey help cards and signs which are available free to all passengers, and to raise awareness of the help they provide.
Talks and activities were held throughout the day and about 30 people attended 45-minute training sessions which were free and open to all.

Organiser Russ Champion, from Plymouth Citybus, said: "We really hope that this day has helped to support some of our customers, regardless of whether they are dealing with dementia or supporting friends or family.
"We wanted to hold this event in the run-up to Christmas as we are aware that it can be a very stressful time for some of our older customers and wanted to make sure they knew how to get help before the shopping season starts."
