The runs continued to flow at Corsham yesterday as another two centuries were scored on day two of the Minor Counties Championship clash between Wiltshire and Cornwall.

Cornwall go into the final day trailing by 184 runs and will be readying themselves for a tough run-chase this afternoon against opponents desperate to record their first victory of the campaign.

The visitors resumed yesterday on 38 without loss having spent much of the previous day chasing leather as the hosts piled up 384 for eight in 90 overs, including a century for Luke Stoughton.

Matt Robins and David Roberts gave them a firm start with an opening stand of 58 – and although the middle order failed to take advantage of the conditions – all-rounder Dan Davis and captain Tom Sharp kept the innings together with splendid centuries as the home bowlers found it was their turn to sweat on a hard, high-scoring ground where the ball took a fearful beating from both the batters and the stone wall that surrounds three sides of the compact ground.

The Duchy were eventually dismissed for 360, three overs short of their full 90-over quota and at the close Wiltshire had reached 160 for one – including a century for opener Henry Langford – for a lead of 184 and every chance of setting a demanding target sometime after lunch today.

"I'm not sure what they'll be happy defending but they'll be slightly wary of our batting if the wickets still good," said Sharp, who hammered 11 fours and four sixes in his long innings of 114 before he was ninth man out, run out by a combination of tired legs and a direct hit from a throw from the outfield.

"It's a pretty flat wicket with short boundaries and a lightning outfield, so first and foremost we need to take some early wickets to slow them down and take it from there."

Sharp was delighted that Cornwall bagged maximum batting points for the first time this season, Callington all-rounder Davis smacking 13 fours and one six in an innings that was cut short on 104 by a Nick Harrison deliver, a second victim for the home seamer after Robins had been caught in the gully for 33.

Keith Parsons went for no score to a peach of a delivery from James Hibberd to be caught in the slips, but Gary Thomas and Rob Harrison both hit 23 to give their centurions some support.

Play resumes this morning at 11am with every likelihood that the batters will again dominate and that stone wall will again takes its toll.
