TWO Torbay councillors were pipped at the post at the LGiU and CCLA C'llr Achievement Awards.

In their fourth year, the C'llr Awards celebrate those councillors who go over and above what is expected of them and make positive change to their community.

Deputy Mayor and executive lead for strategic planning, housing and energy, Cllr David Thomas, was short-listed for the Community Champion award.

Councillor Alison Hernandez, executive lead for involved and healthy communities, was short-listed for Online Councillor of the Year, as she was winner of the award last year.

Both were beaten in the final by councillors from other parts of the country.

Torbay Council was the only council to have two councillors short-listed.

The Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, was the keynote speaker and is pictured with the two Bay councillors.

Cllr Thomas is interim chairman of the Blatchcombe Community Partnership. It has a new website. He said: "Over the year we have seen massive community involvement."
