Councillors welcome changes to part-time street lighting route
LOCAL councillors have welcomed the addition of Cowick Lane to the list of walking routes that will remain lit throughout the night, but they are suggesting that Buddle Lane should be added to the list as well.
Cllr Paul Bull has told Community News: “I was unable to attend the public consultation meeting at West Exe Technology College, but was pleased by some slight movement announced by Devon County Council officers at their presentation at St Thomas Community Centre.
“They said that implementation of part-night street lighting is now likely to roll out slowly across Exeter as and when the relevant equipment is fitted to street lights. And it is proposed that the lights across Exeter will not go until after Christmas.
“They also concede the lights could stay on on Fridays and Saturdays if local conditions warrant it.”

However fellow ward councillor Heather Morris has said that she is unhappy about the lack of consultation within the ward itself.
Cllr Morris said: “I feel that whilst proposals have been placed in various locations and public meetings have been arranged throughout the City there has been very little advertising and no meetings or displays are currently due to be held within the ward of Cowick despite Cllr Roy Hill and Cllr Morris suggesting venues.
Cllr Morris “ On such an important issue like this, which once implemented is very unlikely to be reversed, it is essential that every effort is made by Devon County Council to fully engage and hold proper consultations.”
