County show a record breaker, organisers say
More than 60,000 people attended the two-day Dorset County Show, held at the permanent showground at Dorchester – some 5 per cent up on last year.
"While we are still waiting for final confirmation on exact figures, early indications show that it was a record-breaker in visitor numbers," said Sam Mackenzie-Green, the show secretary.
Traders had reported that "the show had delivered, once again, on every possible count", she said.
She added: "The line-up in the main arena provided a really good mix of attractions for the whole family. Because many shows were cancelled due to bad weather, people really made the effort to travel the distance to get to ours. The sun shone for us on both days, providing motivation for our more impulsive visitors."

Entry prices had been held for the past five years, with an adult ticket costing £10. "So families can have a genuinely action-packed day out without breaking the bank," said Miss Mackenzie-Green.
Show highlights included the hosting of the finals of the English Sheep Shearing Championships, at short notice.
Dean Nelmes, from Warmwell, near Dorchester, was lying third in the national championships prior to this competition, but the points he accrued put him into first place and the overall winner of the national title.
