Crane fire blocks one lane of M5 near Exeter
The engine of a mobile crane caught fire on the M5 early this morning.
Two fire appliances and a water bowser were sent to a report of a crane on fire on the M5 motorway heading northbound between junctions 27 and 26.

Upon arrival crews found a fire within the engine compartment of an 82 tonne mobile crane unit.
Crews awaited the closure of lane one before being able to access the engine compartment.

Once lane one was closed the crews were able to extinguish the fire using a hose reel jet, small tools and a short extension ladder.
The cause of the fire is accidental.
