Cureton targets automatic promotion place after Grecians defeat leaders
Jamie Cureton says Exeter City should be looking to chase down Gillingham after recording a stunning 3-2 victory against the npower League Two leaders at the Prestfield Stadium on Tuesday night.
Cureton sealed the win with an 86th-minute header to lift the Grecians back into the play-offs places.
However, having taken ten league points from a possible 12 so far in November, Cureton says City's aim should be to push into the three automatic promotion spots.
"You want to be at the sharp end of the table and competing at the top," said Cureton.

"Now that we are in it [the play-offs zone], we don't want to drop out. We want to keep moving forward and try and chase Gillingham down.
"That is our plan and we feel we have got enough in the dressing room [to do it]."
City face Rotherham United at home on Saturday – a side who also have ambitions of making it to League One via the automatic promotion places. However, the Millers currently find themselves out of contention in 11th spot.
It is a situation City found themselves in just three weeks ago but, having managed to pick up a few solid results, they have demonstrated how quickly things can change.
"We have had two tough games away and we have won them both and, I think, won them both quite well," added Cureton, who also scored in the 1-0 victory at Bradford City last Saturday.
"Now we have to build and take that into the home game [against Rotherham] and try to keep going.
"We had a bad run a month ago, but we seem to have steadied the ship again and steadily we are getting back to how we were at the start of the season.
"We know if we can get a win here and a win there and keep our run going, other teams will slip up and we will keep catching them.
"Eventually we would like to finish in the top three and get out automatically, but if not we will take going up the other way [via the play-offs]."
Cureton, who rejoined City last March – initially on loan – has been a revelation this season, netting 15 times already.
At the start of the campaign, the 37-year-old admitted he had hoped to reach 20 goals come May. He has now had to revaluate that aim. Cureton said: "I said at the start if I played the majority of the season, I'd like to get to 20. But I have been getting goals quite quick. If I can keep my form I'd like to get to 20 as quickly as possible and go from there. That is my contribution. If I can score goals, then hopefully it puts us in positions to win games."
Tuesday's win in Kent was a source of delight for City manager Paul Tisdale, who said: "It was a big ask, against the league leaders and to go a goal down after three minutes and to come back how we did.
"It was a really tough, creative, ballsy and fantastic three points. We were very solid, we defended our set-pieces well. It is something we have worked on and it has shown in the last two games."
