Dartmoor Classic cycle event clinches ride vote
THE DARTMOOR Classic has been voted Britain's best cyclosportive – by a landslide.
The spectacular mid-summer event, which will attract 3,000 riders to its seventh edition in 2013, was "the runaway winner" of the Favourite British Sportive category in leading UK magazine Cycling Weekly's annual readers' poll.

Promoter Ron Keegan, of organisers the Mid-Devon CC/Colin Lewis Cycles Club, said: "It's a big boost for us, that cycling people across the country think we're the best.
"The Classic finished third last year, when there only a few votes in it.

"But we've tried to improve the event year on year, and it's great that people have recognised it.
"It's also a big thank-you to all the people in the club who give up their time to help with the event, as well as our sponsors."
The Classic, in association with Specialized, beat two Welsh events, the Dragon Ride and the Etape Cymru, into second and third places.
The 2013 Classic, based at Newton Abbot Racecourse for the first time, will be held on Sunday, June 23.
Entries are already shut – all 3,000 places sold out in less than six days.
SOUTH DEVON cycle ace Jon Tiernan-Locke has garnered more honours at the end of the most successful year of his career.
Cycling Weekly, the UK's leading cyclesport magazine, rated Tour of Britain winner Locke sixth in its Riders Of The Year list.
The former Mid-Devon CC/Colin Lewis Cycles star was behind Tour de France winner and Olympic hero Bradley Wiggins, other Games gold medalists Laura Trott, Sir Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny and TdF runner-up Chris Froome, but ahead of Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton and top sprinter Mark Cavendish.
Locke became the first home winner of the professional Tour of Britain since 1989 when he broke the strongest international field ever gathered for the event over the hills of mid-Wales and Devon in September.
But that was only one of nine victories that he gained at home and abroad, a record which clinched a two-year contract with Team Sky.
Cycling Weekly readers also voted Locke their Most Impressive British-based Rider.
