Dartmouth pay the penalty in battle with unbeaten leaders
DARTMOUTH battled against unbeaten league leaders Kingsbridge and Salcombe Cougars in a tense and physical match played in Torbay due to the home pitch still being unavailable, but lost 2-1 after two penalty decisions went against them.
With key players going head-to-head for long periods, tensions rose, leading to a yellow card and sin bin for both Siobhan Edwards and her opposite number.
With confidence gaining, Dartmouth came out of the blocks with vigour in the second half and a lovely piece of passing play through Shin Patel and Lucy Pillar released sister Hannah Pillar who drove across the D and smashed home a lovely shot to gain the lead.
Kingsbridge upped the pressure and attacked relentlessly until a deliberate foul from player of the match Hannah Pillar brought the first penalty decision. Goalie Ellie Malley palmed the flick away only to see it fall inside the post.

In the last 20 minutes, Kingsbridge pushed hard and created numerous short corners. But despite some brave defending, the action in Dartmouth's D led to the second and cruellest penalty as a ball struck Chloe Edwards in the face on the line following a deflection off her stick. Following an umpire discussion, the penalty was awarded and despatched.
This weekend, Dartmouth travel to Exeter for a clash against Isca 4, while Newton Abbot face Exeter University at Torquay Girls Grammar School.
