TIVERTON Town manager Chris Vinnicombe will hand a start to defender Jak Martin in Saturday's Southern League trip to Chesham United.

The Yellows boss moved to boost his squad by signing the youngster on a one-month loan deal from Weston-super-Mare last week.

Martin returns to Ladysmead following his controversial exit in 2007. The defender walked out of Tiverton after being dropped for a game against Swindon Supermarine, claiming he had been unfairly treated by former manager Martyn Rogers.

Having had spells at Taunton Town, Willand Rovers and Bridgwater Town, Martin is currently out of favour at Weston-super-Mare.

And with Adam Faux serving a one-match suspension at the weekend, Martin will be thrust into the starting line-up.

"We have got Jak for a month, which we are pleased about," said Vinnicombe.

"Craig Laird (Weston-super-Mare manager) phoned me and asked if I wanted any players and I said 'no'.

"But Jak became available and he was someone who could replace Adam when he is suspended. So we said 'yes' and Jak was willing to come.

"It is good for him because he wants to play some games as he hasn't really played at Weston. And it is good for us because he is a good player and another person to add to the squad.

"He can play in several positions and he did well on his debut at Cambridge City.

"I know what Jak is all about — he is big, strong and loves to get his foot in. He can make a tackle and is quite capable of getting up and down as a full-back or a centre-half.

"He is versatile and can play in a number of different positions. He will be a good asset for us."

Vinnicombe admits that if Martin performs well in his short-term spell at the club, he may look to extent the deal.

"He is here for a month but we might want him to stay for a bit longer.

"That is something we will look at in a few weeks but we are just pleased that he is here."

After carving out their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Evesham last Tuesday, Tivvy were brought crashing back to earth by a 5-0 drubbing at Cambridge City on Saturday.

The Yellows were dead and buried inside the opening 11 minutes after they shipped three goals in quick succession.

David Kolodynski, Craig Hammond and Tony Burke did the damage, before Liam Nicell piled more misery on Tivvy nine minutes before half-time.

The second half was a case of damage limitation, but Joey Abbs completed the rout four minutes from time.

Vinnicombe said: "We actually started the game quite brightly and then basically the game was over in a two-and-a-half minute spell in which we conceded three goals.

"When the first one went in you expect your team to make sure everybody is marking properly and are mentally alert to the dangers of the opposition scoring a second goal.

"But within 30 seconds of us kicking off and giving the ball away we found ourselves 2-0 down. From the kick-off we gave the ball straight to them again and went three goals down. The game was over.

"Ryan Draper made a few saves and it could have been six or seven at half-time rather than just four.

"We said at half-time that we couldn't change what had happened in the first half and we have to try and win the second half.

"You are not going to win the game from that position unless you are very lucky and we told them to go out and get a bit of pride back.

"To be fair to them they did that and worked hard to try and put things right.

"But on the day we just weren't good enough."
