An accident on one of Plymouth's busiest routes is causing traffic delays this evening.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area under the flyover at Crownhill on the A386, near the bypass, after a male cyclist came off his bicycle just before 5pm.

Plymouth's @PlymPoliceCsec Tweeted: "Tavistock road city centre bound gridlocked around Crownhill area due to RTC. Avoid if possible!

"#A386 still gridlocked inbound (#crownhill) due to injured cyclist."

No other vehicles are thought to be involved, said police.

One lane of the A386 heading into Plymouth is closed and traffic is queueing.

Plymouth Citybus are also reporting delays to their services: "Crownhill inbound bus stop is inaccesable due to RTC on Tavistock Road, Police in attendance, services unable to call at the Bus Stop."
