Despairing Paignton mother in fresh appeal for help to trace missing son

A DESPAIRING mother has made a fresh appeal to trace her son who went missing from a house in Paignton more than a decade ago.

Gregory Henley (pictured) was 37 when his mother last saw him.

He disappeared from a house in Leighon Road, Paignton, in May, 2001, and there have been no reported sightings of him since.

His mother has no idea what happened to him or where he went — but she retains a hope he might still be alive.

She admits that Christmas, in particular, is a difficult time but she believes somebody somewhere must know what happened to him.

"I am appealing again to anyone who might have any information concerning my son," she said.

"Since he vanished, I have tried everything in my power to find out where he is and what has happened but so far it has all been in vain."

Gregory was born in October, 1966, in Twickenham and had a healthy and happy childhood.

But when he was 23, he developed catatonic schizophrenia and fear psychosis.

Doctors said he would never completely recover from this condition and he would need daily medication.

He lived with his mother in Merrivale Close, Torquay, before moving to the address in Paignton.

Mrs Henley last saw him when he came to her house in January, 2001, saying he would come back again soon.

But in May that year police told her he had vanished.

Police still have a missing person file on Gregory which is periodically reviewed.

Mrs Henley says she is not sure her son, who would now be 46, is still alive.

He is described as about 6ft tall, with brown, or by now greying hair, and brown eyes.

His medical condition meant he often appeared hesitant when going through doorways or crossing the road and Mrs Henley says he could not survive without medication.
