Developers will be the only winners
HOW comforting to read that Tudor Evans is riding to the rescue of Plymouth's unemployed (The Herald, January 4.)
He intends to build another 2,000 houses; this will not only help the homeless but give work to the unemployed. He also has the backing of private businessmen and developers. I interpret this as yet another cynical ploy to justify building on our airport or even Central Park, so let us beware 2,000 houses that the homeless of Plymouth can't afford to buy.
As for employment, it's no more than a blip. In a couple of years time we will be back to square one with just as many unemployed and just as many homeless. The only winners will be the developers who would have developed their bank balance. This is nothing new. It's been the same old story for years.
Whenever Plymouth City Council get in a rut they sell off the family silver.

In the not-too-distant future, Plymouth will become one urban sprawl in any direction you look and visitors will pass over us and go directly to Cornwall. Why not? It's quicker by plane.
Therefore, why not make the most of what we have? Someone suggested rebuilding our pier. What about repairing our crumbling foreshore? Let's promote our countryside instead of building all over it. City of Culture? You must be joking.
