TWO of Bach's best known cantatas will be performed by Devon Baroque this Sunday. Also, two of his four orchestral suites of dances, in which the strings are variously joined by oboes, bassoon, trumpets and timpani.

Last March, after 13 years directing the orchestra from the violin, Margaret Faultless handed over to another highly respected specialist in baroque music-making: Jonathan Watts. He lives in Devon and is known for directing choirs and orchestras, accompanying choirs, singers and instrumentalists and playing organ, harpsichord and piano with many eminent musicians, particularly at the annual Dartington International Summer School.

The soprano soloist is Amy Carson who is best-known for her role as Pamina in Kenneth Branagh's film The Magic Flute.

Devon Baroque are at the Great Hall, Dartington on Sunday, February 17, 3pm. Tickets: £18 (full), £5 (students and under 18s) on 01803 847070 or visit www.dartington.org/arts
